Application Tips and Resources

Applying to graduate school can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help. Our admissions committee has put together valuable tips to guide you in crafting a strong and competitive application.

Submit a standout application:

1. Your candidate statement should articulate your interest and motivation in pursuing the degree, and demonstrate clear understanding of the field to which you are applying. Discuss how your academic and professional experiences have shaped your interests and how the program will help your career goals.

2. Your candidate statement also serves as a writing sample. Be sure your statement has a logical structure and is easy to follow. Ensure all components of the prompt are addressed.

3. Tailor your CV or resume to highlight experiences and skills that related directly to the program to which you’re applying. Your CV/resume should be well organized and easy to read.

4. Choose recommenders who know you well and can speak to the qualifications that will make you successful in the program. Letters of recommendation can be a great time to discuss attributes that may not be easily represented in other parts of the application, such as teamwork and leadership.

5. Proofread. Eliminate grammatical errors and ensure proper language usage. A well-edited application reflects positively on your attention to detail and communication skills.
